Dr. Michael Macris, MD

A cum laude graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Michael Macris earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Following medical school, he was awarded a research fellowship investigating cardiac transplantation and artificial heart technology at the Texas Heart Institute (THI) in Houston. He then completed his residency in general surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School followed by a residency in thoracic surgery with Dr. Denton Cooley at THI.

Board certified in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, by the America Board of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Macris has practiced medicine in Houston since 1993. His clinical interests include Atrial Fibrillation and Maze Procedure (Atrial Fibrillation surgery), acquired heart disease, valve repair and replacement. He treats patients 18 years and older and speaks Greek.

Dr. Macris incorporates minimally invasive surgical techniques in both valve surgery and coronary artery bypass. He has been a leader in the development and use of off-pump coronary artery bypass and early adapter of endoscopic saphenous vein harvesting techniques. He is recognized in the medical profession for his participation in the advancement of surgical techniques that improve patient outcomes.

Widely published in his specialty, Dr. Macris is active as a speaker to numerous professional groups. He currently serves as the medical director of the Cardiovascular service line at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital and the medical director of the cardiovascular operating room at Memorial Herman Greater Heights Hospital.
