Dr. Dawn Hui earned her medical degree from the UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where she also completed her general surgery residency, after which she completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Southern California. 

Board certified in thoracic surgery, Dr. Dawn Hui has been in practice since 2013 and specializes in adult cardiac surgery with a focus on aortic surgery, valvular surgery and coronary surgery.

Dr. Hui’s patient care philosophy emphasizes a collaborative, patient-centered approach that blends specialized expertise with teamwork and shared decision-making. Her primary goal is to continually improve the lives of patients, families and the community.

She serves as professor of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and has received numerous awards, including recognition as a top surgeon by her peers. She has contributed to many national guidelines and published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and past president of the San Antonio chapter of the American Heart Association.

A graduate of the Juilliard School, Dr. Hui was a member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra prior to starting her medical career. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and extended family in Houston.
