Dr. Kulvinder Bajwa received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed his residencytraining at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

Board-certified in general surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Bajwa’s clinical interests are minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, bariatric (weight loss) surgery and robotic-assisted surgery. In practice since 2000, he serves as the medical director of the Weight Loss Surgery Program at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, and he has served as an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School since 2008. He is also a Colonel and Command Surgeon for the U.S. Army Reserve’s 75th Training Command.

He has been recognized with the Distinguished Teaching Award at both Brooke Army Medical Center and UTHealth, and as the 2004 Doctor of the Year at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, where he served as chief of staff in 2007-08. He has also received numerous military awards, including 4 Army Commendation Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.

Dr. Bajwa believes that patients need an advocate to guide them to the proper and reliable sources of information that make them well-informed and prepared to achieve the best results.  Recognizing that surgery is a major event in a patient's life and not a daily hospital routine, he helps prepare patients for this experience and gives them realistic expectations during their recovery.

A resident of Sugar Land, Dr. Bajwa is married and the father of two daughters.  His favorite activities outside of his practice are running (finishing his first half Marathon in 2014), skiing, and traveling.
