Advanced practice provider Mitalee Jiva, a certified family nurse practitioner, also holds certificates in basic life support (BLS) and as a Department of Transportation medical examiner. Her experience spans family practice, urgent care and hospital settings for patients of all ages. She particularly enjoys treating geriatric patients.
Mitalee earned an associate degree in nursing from Blinn College, followed by a bachelor’s in nursing from Texas Tech University and a master’s in nursing from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She also served as a clinical adjunct faculty member at A&M-Corpus Christi, where she worked with undergraduate nursing students. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
A lifelong interest in preventative medicine and wellness, a desire to help others and a drive to synthesize and analyze complex medical problems led Mitalee to her career as a family nurse practitioner. Among her primary clinical interests are diagnosis and management of acute and chronic illness, prevention and wellness, physicals, depression and anxiety, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, musculoskeletal pain and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.
Family practice allows Mitalee to create long-term relationships with her patients and gives her the satisfaction of helping people every day. The most rewarding aspects of her profession are the endless opportunities to connect with people and improving patient outcomes with individualized, guideline-based care.
Mitalee’s approach to patient care focuses on individualized care and prevention. She wants to help patients address current issues and stay up to date with appropriate screenings, vaccinations, lifestyle modifications and other measures to keep them healthy. Her goal is for patients to feel that they are heard, their needs are addressed, and they are educated and empowered in their health care decisions.
Mitalee enjoys cooking, travel and spending time with her family when she is away from her practice.
