Camp Kids Unlimited, TIRR Memorial Hermann’s annual overnight summer camp for children with physical disabilities, is still taking applications for its upcoming camp scheduled for August 4-7 at Camp Aranzazu in Rockport, Texas.

Camp Kids Unlimited serves children with physical disabilities age 10-18. Campers will have the opportunity to experience what summer camp is like and participate in several wheelchair sports and other camp activities.

Staff members from TIRR Memorial Hermann, recognized around the world as a leader in medical rehabilitation and research will help with the camp. The camp staff is experienced in caring for people with disabilities and hosting adaptive camps.

“Camp Kids Unlimited is a great opportunity for kids to expand their independence, try new things and have lots of fun,” says Ava Skrabanek, camp director and adaptive sports coordinator at TIRR Memorial Hermann. “Kids will make lasting friendships with other campers and staff who have experienced similar obstacles in their lives.”

All campers must be independent with all self-care, transfers, and mobility to attend. Campers must register by July 8.

This is the first time Camp Kids Unlimited will be held at Camp Aranzazu, near Corpus Christi. “We wanted to be able to serve kids in an area that’s not really served by other camps,” says Skrabanek. “We expect to see campers from across southeast Texas.”

Camp Kids Unlimited offers exactly what you’d expect at summer camp. “We’ll do tie-die, play wheelchair basketball, ultimate Frisbee, build campfires, make s’mores,” says Skrabanek. “A day at camp is a pretty busy day.”The four day overnight camp costs $100 and scholarships are available.
