HUMBLE, TEXAS (November 24, 2010)

The Artery Explorer is heading to Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital to continue the fight against atherosclerosis.

The Artery Explorer is a state-of-the-art, 3-D, mobile motion simulator that helps people visualize the progressive build up of plaque inside the arteries known as atherosclerosis.

Inside the machine, participants take a virtual tour through the winding path of the human circulatory system as the arteries become narrow and blocked with plaque. Along the way, they confront common risk factors such as bad cholesterol, high blood pressure and smoking. The experience ends with participants "colliding" with a blood clot, demonstrating how atherosclerosis can result in a heart attack or stroke.

The Artery Explorer will be on the Memorial Hermann Northeast campus on Thursday, December 2, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the parking lot across from the Hospital's East Lobby.
