Beginning this month, Dr. Shippy assumes oversight for clinical quality, safety, and high reliability across Memorial Hermann’s 12 hospitals, including three in the Texas Medical Center. In this role, she will work to advance Memorial Hermann’s uncompromising commitment to quality care, patient safety, and developing programs that further cultivate quality improvement.

Prior to Memorial Hermann, Dr. Shippy served as the chief medical officer for the Gulf Coast Division of Hospital Corporation of America. In that role, she was responsible for the oversight of clinical quality, physician relations, and patient relations for 10 hospitals in Houston, Corpus Christi, and South Texas. Her duties included improving evidence-based quality of care, professional practice, clinical performance, development of medical staff leadership, physician-related information technology initiatives, and business development.
Dr. Shippy began her career as a physician executive at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Promoted to the position of vice president of medical affairs, she was responsible for medical staff services, credentialing and privileging, peer review, graduate medical education, continuing medical education, and the hospitalist program.
With a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M University, Dr. Shippy completed her medical degree and internal medicine training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, she has practiced in a traditional internal medicine setting and as a hospitalist, earning the distinction of Fellow in Hospital Medicine.
