In line with new guidance from the FDA and CDC, Children’s Memorial Hermann Pediatrics plans to begin offering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 6-months to 4-years old as soon as Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
The vaccine will be available at Children’s Memorial Hermann Pediatrics clinics to established patients and patients whose parents wish to establish a new medical home for their child. Families are encouraged to call their pediatrician’s office to schedule an appointment. For those who are not Children’s Memorial Hermann Pediatrics patients, COVID-19 vaccines for this age group may also be available at local pharmacies.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for 6-month-olds to 4-year-olds is a three-dose series. The first two shots are given three weeks apart, and the third dose is given eight weeks after the second shot.
Children’s Memorial Hermann Pediatrics is also offering Pfizer booster shots to children and young adults ages 5 to 17 who received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at least five months ago. Those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should get a booster at least three months after the final dose in the primary series.
Individuals ages 18 and older should contact their primary care physician for COVID-19 vaccination and booster shots. To find a Memorial Hermann physician, click here. For answers to frequently asked questions about the COVID-19 vaccines, please click here.
