HOUSTON (August 02, 2017)

Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital, Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, and Memorial Herman Southwest Hospital recently received the 2017 International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) Care Award from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE) and the International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA). The global award recognizes facilities that hire certified lactation consultants, promote and support breastfeeding, and have a lactation program available to patients five days a week.

“Memorial Hermann stands by its commitment to provide exceptional service and direct support for new and experienced mothers in all stages of their care,” said Victoria L. Regan, M.D., FAAP, Vice President of the Women & Children’s Service Line for Memorial Hermann Health System. “Breastfeeding is proven to be beneficial to both baby and mom, so we ensure our certified lactation consultants are available to help families overcome breastfeeding challenges and support them as their baby grows.”

Memorial Hermann’s team of skilled and knowledgeable IBCLC® lactation consultants provide a full spectrum of services to help mothers feel confident before, during and after delivery. Many Memorial Hermann campuses also offer breastfeeding education classes and breastfeeding support groups.

“Facilities that receive the IBCLC Care Award have taken initiative to improve the overall health of their patients by making breastfeeding a priority and implementing lactation support programs,” said Regina Maria Roig-Romero, Board Chair of the IBLCE. “An important part of providing excellent breastfeeding care is having expert assistance available when the breastfeeding family needs it. IBCLC® lactation consultants are the healthcare professionals best suited to help families achieve their breastfeeding goals.”
