Jorge LuengasJorge Luengas, Jr., MD, a board-certified family medicine specialist at Memorial Hermann Medical Group Northwest, has been named to the Houston section of the American Diabetes Association Board of Directors.

As a member of the ADA board, Dr. Luengas will work with the association to lead the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes, including the funding of research to prevent, cure and manage the disease.

“It is an honor for me to join the ADA board,” Dr. Luengas said. “I have a strong interest in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and am committed to helping people of all ages successfully manage the disease.

”A graduate of the University of St. Thomas and The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Luengas offers comprehensive, integrated primary care through his family practice at Memorial Hermann Medical Group Northwest, which is a physician-led subsidiary of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System.

Dr. Luengas was honored by H Texas Magazine as one of the Top Kids Docs in 2007 and as a Top Doc in 2008. He works with Mended Hearts, a nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Heart Association, and with diabetes campaigns sponsored by the American Diabetes Association within the Hispanic community.

In addition, Dr. Luengas conducts several medical missions to Mexico annually, during which he and 30 other medical professionals provide medical services to 500 patients in two days. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Medical Association.
