Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital has officially changed its name to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center. The name change underscores the advancement in medicine and services now available in Montgomery County and surrounding areas. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands has been serving the community for more than three decades and has consistently expanded as the needs of the community have evolved and increased.
“Becoming a medical center further exemplifies how we have kept our promise to keep pace with this growing community,” said Josh Urban, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center. “The medical center provides an elite array of services; cutting-edge quality care; the latest, most innovative technology; expert physicians; highly certified technicians and consultants; advanced-degreed therapists; and a rigorous safety program to ensure that all patient needs are met, right here in The Woodlands.”
In addition, Mischer Neuroscience Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center moved into a new 25,000-square-foot dedicated space. The clinic’s team of neurosurgeons, neuro-endovascular surgeons, neurologists, interventional pain medicine specialists, neuro-oncologists, specialists in movement disorders and neuromuscular diseases, and neuropsychologists will now all practice at the new center, allowing the more than 20 physicians –the largest group of neuroscience providers in Montgomery County – to closely collaborate in a multidisciplinary approach leading to optimal patient care.
“The center brings superior, comprehensive brain and spine care to The Woodlands community that hasn’t been available at this level before now,” said Dr. Geoffrey Zubay, neurosurgeon and regional medical director, Mischer Neuroscience Associates and clinical assistant professor, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.
The medical center will also have a trauma physician onsite 24/7, and additional trauma subspecialists can be onsite within minutes of receiving an urgent call. As an added benefit, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands serves as a base for Memorial Hermann Life Flight®. The medical center’s trauma team is capable of handling most critical care onsite; however, in the case of unique situations such as burns, transplants and pediatric trauma, Life Flight can quickly transport patients to the health system’s Level I trauma center located in the Texas Medical Center (TMC), Memorial Hermann Red Duke Trauma Institute.
“Simply put: we have raised the bar when it comes to patient care,” said Urban. “We are still the first and only Magnet® recognized hospital in Montgomery County, and we are the first officially designated Level III NICU, which means we are able to care for the critical needs of premature babies at any gestational age. We have also been operating as a Level II trauma center for over a year while we wait for the official designation.”
Other highlights of the medical center include:
In addition, the medical center has earned international recognition as a Baby-Friendly® designated birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc.; has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for primary stroke and for joint replacement (hip and knee) from The Joint Commission; has been recognized as an accredited chest pain center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC); was named one of the Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals for 2017 by Truven Health Analytics; has been accredited as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) with nine commendations, the highest possible level of accreditation; and has been accredited by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons.
