Memorial Hermann Southwest volunteer presentation groupYou only have one chance at a first impression and Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital is taking those words to heart with some big changes you’ll notice the minute you walk through the door. Recently the hospital completed $2 million in renovations and improvements in the emergency department.

A $100,000 gift from the Memorial Hermann Southwest Auxiliary helped to put the finishing touches on the project. The donation paid for new furniture, a new parking surface and renovations to two bathrooms. The Memorial Hermann Southwest Auxiliary supports the hospital’s volunteer services. A series of fundraisers conducted throughout the year made the donation possible.

“I think the improvements make a big difference to our patients and their families,” says Betty Mandeville, President, Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital Auxillary. “It’s satisfying to be able to contribute something that will make a visit to Memorial Hermann Southwest more comfortable.”

“That first impression is everything,” said Laura Price, director of emergency services, Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. “We want our patients to immediately step into a calm, comfortable, healing environment. We’re grateful to our volunteers for this generous donation that further shows our community they don’t have to settle for anything but the best when they come through our doors.

The volunteer services program at Memorial Hermann Southwest has more than 260 active members but they are always looking for others who would like to serve. There are opportunities for men and women, who are at least age 16, to volunteer in clinical and non-clinical areas, patient transportation, the gift shop and other areas.

Memorial Hermann Southwest is located at 7600 Beechnut Street, Houston, 77074. For more information on how to become a volunteer at the hospital, call 713-456-5180.
