A hospital stay can be a stressful time especially for children. But a young woman from Sugar Land is hoping to ease some of that stress by providing books to children at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.
Emily Wang is a summer volunteer at Memorial Hermann Southwest and worked with the Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States (AYLUS) to collect books to be donated to Memorial Hermann Southwest. Three local branches of AYLUS, Houston, Pearland and Sugar Land, collected more than 800 books through their book drives. A portion of those books were recently donated to the hospital.
“This is a wonderful donation we will certainly put to good use,” says Beth Burris Bell, child life specialist, Memorial Hermann Southwest. “Books provide an opportunity for parents to bond with their children and can offer a brief escape for our smallest patients during what can often be a stressful time.”
Memorial Hermann Southwest has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). All care is directed by a neonatologist in house 24/7.
