Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital teamed up with the YMCA to make sure hundreds of area students have the tools they need when the school bell rings. Memorial Hermann Southeast physicians, employees and volunteers donated money and supplies for Operation Backpack.
“We not only want our community to be healthy, we want our community to be successful and it starts with making sure our future leaders are equipped to learn and succeed,” said Kyle Price, Sr. Vice President and CEO, Memorial Hermann Southeast. “It’s great to know so many young students won’t have to worry about having what they need on the first day of school.”
Enough supplies were purchased and donated to distribute 748 backpacks to students in Alvin, Pasadena and Pearland ISD. Employees from Memorial Hermann Southeast and Pearland met at the Vic Coppinger Family YMCA in Pearland to stuff the backpacks full of supplies.
Mario Garner, newly appointed Sr. Vice President and CEO, Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital also took part in the event. Memorial Hermann Pearland is scheduled to open in early 2016.
“At Memorial Hermann Pearland, we want to create a culture of service right from the start,” said Garner. “I want our commitment to the community to extend far beyond the walls of our hospital.”
YMCA’s across the Greater Houston area set a goal of distributing 100,000 backpacks to the community this year. The backpacks not only include school supplies but also notes of encouragement to the students.
