Pearland Independent School District and Memorial Hermann Health System are now working together to ensure Pearland ISD student athletes stay healthy on and off the field. Officials today have announced a strategic alliance that will name Memorial Hermann as the official healthcare provider for Pearland ISD athletics. The health system will provide medical support and services to the district’s 3,500 student athletes. In addition, the partnership will enhance the district’s clinical rotations programs, healthcare-related career pathways, and provide greater accessibility to the Memorial Hermann’s services and expertise.
The announcement was made by the Pearland ISD Superintendent, Dr. John P. Kelly and Erin Asprec, CEO Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. “We are thrilled that this partnership will increase the medical resources and career education available to our athletes, coaches and CTE students,” said Dr. Kelly.
"Our two organizations have collaborated on many community and school-based programs over the years," said Asprec. "This is an extension of our relationship and we look forward to supporting Pearland ISD athletics by providing high-quality healthcare in a variety of settings."
Memorial Hermann will provide baseline concussion testing, access to EKG’s for high risk athletes, Saturday morning injury clinics and continuing education opportunities for the athletic trainers and coaching staff. In addition to services and programs for athletics, the health system will also make health and wellness support available for faculty, staff and parents. This will include preventative screenings and seminars, health fairs, nursing education and academic programs. Memorial Hermann will also donate an annual scholarship for high school students.
"Pearland ISD has been fortunate to have Memorial Hermann Southeast as an educational partner," continued Dr. Kelly. "The hospital’s support will help us continue to raise the bar in our athletic programs. We're grateful that our students will benefit from Memorial Hermann’s experience in sports medicine and its commitment to keeping our student athletes as safe and as healthy as possible."
In addition to the Pearland ISD partnership, Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital also provides medical support to athletes of Pasadena ISD.
