Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital today announced the addition of pediatric inpatient beds to the campus, bringing the total count to nine. Furthermore, six of the nine beds are licensed as Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) beds, which can accommodate children with more severe illnesses or injuries.
An IMU is a step down from an intensive care unit but provides more advanced care than a medical/surgical acute care unit. Pediatric conditions often treated in an IMU include, but are not limited to, dehydration, pneumonia, asthma and viral respiratory illnesses.
“We are thrilled our ongoing expansion is giving us the opportunity to offer more robust pediatric services here at Memorial Hermann Katy, including Katy’s only pediatric IMU,” said Jerry Ashworth, CEO of Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital and Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital. “Additionally, pediatric rehabilitation and pediatric imaging services will soon be offered on campus with the opening of our third professional office building in 2025.”
The pediatric expansion is part of the $167 million expansion currently underway at the hospital, which has added 115,000 square feet of new and renovated service areas, nearly 100 beds and a new parking garage to better serve the Greater Katy area’s growing population.
