SUGAR LAND (July 10, 2017)

Seamless transition provides access to broader Memorial Hermann Health System network Emerus hospitals in Tomball and Sugar Land are now officially operating under the trusted name of Memorial Hermann, which has earned national awards and recognition for its relentless focus on quality, patient safety, and leading-edge health care.

The Emerus Community Hospital, 24429 Tomball Parkway in Tomball, is now Memorial Hermann Tomball Hospital. The Emerus 24HR Emergency Hospital, 16000 Southwest Freeway, Suite 100, in Sugar Land, is now Memorial Hermann First Colony Hospital.

The seamless transition resulted from a joint venture partnership between Emerus Holdings Inc., the nation’s first and largest operator of micro-hospitals, and Memorial Hermann Health System, one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in Southeast Texas. The deal was announced in May.

“By partnering with such a trusted health system, our patients know they will receive premier medical care from affiliated doctors and staff who are all held to Memorial Hermann’s high standards," said Craig Goguen, CEO of Emerus. “We could not be more pleased, as this agreement continues the momentum we’ve established as an expansion partner of choice to leading health systems across the nation.”

As part of the transaction, the partnership has the option to open additional health care facilities in the future, which would significantly improve access to high quality care in communities throughout the Greater Houston area.

“Our strategy has always been to bring innovative, patient-centered health care into the communities where people live and work and it’s still a driving force for us today,” said David Bradshaw, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Memorial Hermann. “Memorial Hermann Tomball and Memorial Hermann First Colony hospitals will provide the same evidence-based, high-quality and safe health care our patients have come to expect.”

Uniquely different from urgent care clinics, these hospitals include emergency centers with additional services such as primary care, diagnostic imaging, and lab services – in a smaller, more efficient footprint, with shorter wait times and convenient parking, closer to patients’ neighborhoods and homes. Memorial Hermann Tomball and Memorial Hermann First Colony hospitals expand the already well-established Memorial Hermann network of care throughout the greater Houston area. The hospitals feature:

  • Access to the broader Memorial Hermann network — allowing for care coordination, consultation and seamless transition across the care continuum;
  • Inpatient bed capacity — enabling patients to stay closer to home when lower level admissions/recoveries are needed;
  • Primary care physicians, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services on site; and
  • Access to care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Each hospital is staffed by ER-trained physicians, experienced nurses and other clinical specialists dedicated to providing the same level of compassionate, patient-centered care found throughout the Memorial Hermann system.
