The Ladies of Kingwood Church of Christ recently presented the trustees of the Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital Foundation with "cough" pillows, which are stuffed and sewn by the ladies and distributed to patients. Grasping or holding a cough pillow to the chest or abdomen helps patients cough more comfortably and protects incisions after abdominal surgery.
Physicians and respiratory practitioners want patients to cough and breathe deeply to help prevent some of the complications of surgery and anesthesia, such as pneumonia. The Foundation purchased the fabric and stuffing, and the Ladies of Kingwood Church of Christ created the "cough" pillows.
