On a day when the world celebrates romance, it’s important to note that there’s no love like a mother’s love.
This Valentine’s Day, pediatric patients at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital shared their gratitude for the women at their bedsides by surprising their moms with long-stemmed red and pink carnations.
“Valentine’s Day is all about expressing your love for those who mean the most to you, and this was a special opportunity to help our littlest patients say ‘thank you’ in their own small ways to those who have been by their sides throughout their hospital stays,” said Alyssa Luksa, child life manager at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.
In addition to the flower distribution, pediatric patients received a few special treats of their own, including a Valentine’s Day party complete with cookie decorating, and a personalized valentine sent from community members.
Volunteers hand-delivered the cards, which were handcrafted by former patients, as part of an online campaign to supply every patient at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital with a Valentine since they were unable to participate in card exchanges with their friends and classmates. The outpouring of support for the initiative was tremendous, with hundreds of people filling out cards with special messages for the patients.
