Dr. Michael Chang earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and economics at Rice University and his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He also completed an internship and residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at UT Southwestern Medical School.

Dr. Chang, who has practiced since 2003, is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases. He is a member of the Sharing Hospital Antimicrobial Reports for Pediatric Stewardship (SHARPS) Collaborative, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS) and European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases.

As an associate professor of pediatric infectious diseases with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, his primary research interest is in the application of human-centered design to process improvement and medical education. He has been a co-author on recent publications focused on hospital process improvement, COVID-19, and rare cases of infectious diseases. In addition, he is frequently interviewed by local, state, and national print and broadcast media on medical topics, including the impact of COVID-19 on children and families.

He is the director of pediatric antimicrobial stewardship at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, providing patient care at both sites. He also sees patients in clinic at UT Physicians.
