Memorial Hermann has made the very difficult decision to close the University Place facilities.

See below for more information about how we are supporting our residents, patients and families through this transition.

Information About University Place Senior Living Community and Nursing Center

Memorial Hermann Health System is working to create healthier communities, now and for generations to come. Like many health care organizations across the country, we are continuously assessing our services and footprint to ensure we are effectively meeting the greatest needs of the communities we serve.

Since opening University Place in 1988, we have been firmly committed to offering its residents and patients high-quality support and care. After nearly 40 years of operation, the facility requires extensive upgrades to continue providing the same high-quality care and services. Unfortunately, we do not have guaranteed access to the facility beyond 2038, making it difficult to justify the investment of substantial charitable funds in the required renovations or to accept new residents.

Considering these factors, we have made the very difficult decision to close our University Place facilities over the next year and focus our financial investment on ensuring the long- term well-being of our highly valued residents and patients. We are committed to providing our residents with the care and support they need and will invest considerable financial and relocation resources to assist each resident in selecting and moving to a top- tier retirement community of their choice. We will also partner with long-term Nursing Center residents to develop personalized transition plans to meet their individual care needs.

The Nursing Center will close in September 2025, while the University Place Senior Living Community will remain open through June 2026, allowing substantial time for our residents to move through the transition process. The University Place Senior Living Community may close prior to June 2026, provided all existing residents have transitioned to another retirement community or alternative housing option.

We remain very proud of the exceptional work our University Place team has led and all that we have achieved over the past 37 years on behalf of residents, patients and the community.

Memorial Hermann will continue to serve the needs of the Southwest Houston community through Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, as well as our many community programs across the area.
