Sophia Khan-Makoid earned her undergraduate degree in biological behavior at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and her medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Brunswick, N.J. She completed her internship and residency in general surgery at Cooper University in Camden, N.J., followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). She completed additional training in advanced endovascular aortic repair at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Khan-Makoid specializes in both open and minimally invasive approaches to treatment of vascular disease, and she sees adult and senior patients. Her primary clinical and research interests are in treatment of aortic disease and the role of genetics in vascular disease.

An assistant professor of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, Dr. Khan-Makoid is active in many research studies, has published articles in several medical journals and has presented on topics related to vascular surgery interventions.
