Managed care pharmacy has become increasingly important with the shift toward value-based care and improved health outcomes. Memorial Hermann Health System (MHHS) offers a unique ambulatory pharmacy component within the accountable care organization model, aimed at enhancing population health and equity improvement. The MHHS PGY-1 managed care pharmacy residency provides a wide range of in-depth experiences, including population health management, formulary management and medication therapy optimization, all designed to prepare residents to become future health care leaders.
These experiences equip residents with the skills necessary to reduce health care costs through effective medication management, improve clinical outcomes for larger patient populations and drive innovation in formulary and policy development.
Residents will complete learning experiences across the care continuum and various ambulatory settings. Experiences will range from population health management to leadership presentations.
Electives are contingent on preceptor availability, resident interest, and organizational support.
