HOUSTON (October 29, 2021)

A recent news article contains inaccuracies about the events related to Memorial Hermann’s decision to rescind a candidate’s job offer. While it is our policy not to share specific details about personnel matters, we understand the candidate’s disappointment and wish him well as he continues in his career.

Our health system is based in Houston, Texas – the nation’s most diverse city – and just like Greater Houston, Memorial Hermann is made up of a diverse population. We have long sought to ensure equity, access and opportunity for everyone we serve and everyone who serves within our system.

Diversity – of thought, experience, gender and ethnic/racial backgrounds, and more – has always been a priority for Memorial Hermann. We have doubled down on these efforts in recent years, and in mid-2020, we officially launched our equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) program designed to encourage understanding, create spaces to learn and heal together, and address critical health equity issues within our communities.

This important work is not a campaign, it is a moral imperative that is foundational to our mission, vision and values. We are actively recruiting for a Chief EDI Officer to build on the strong foundation our team has laid, and to ensure our EDI structures, initiatives and programs are strategic, sustainable and high impact. The individual in this role will be empowered to drive important cultural change and will be involved in shaping our organization’s broader strategic priorities.

As an Anchor Institution, trusted community partner, healthcare provider and employer of choice, we are committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion both within our walls and throughout our community.
