Memorial Hermann Life Flight® Among Nation's Safest Programs
With more than 30 years' service to the greater Houston community, flying some 3,000 missions per year, Memorial Hermann Life Flight is not only one of the nation's pre-eminent hospital-based air ambulance programs, it's acknowledged to be one of the safest.
Life Flight follows rigorous safety protocols. Our brand new fleet of six dual-engine helicopters are equipped with state-of-the-art safety equipment such as: Traffic (aircraft) avoidance systems; enhanced ground proximity warning systems (EGPWS); on-board weather radar; NEXRAD weather display; current and forecast airport weather display (METARs and TAFs); electronically displayed instrument approach charts and airport diagrams; and dual (redundant) auto-pilot.
Life Flight crews participate in extensive safety training with aviation crew spending more than 1,246 hours on safety training annually and clinical/dispatch crew spending over 1,000 hours annually. We are a charter member of the Aviation Safety Network (ASN); a rigorous program designed to provide support in implementing safety management systems and risk management best practice within aviation operations and has been specifically tailored to the EMS sector of the helicopter industry.
