Memorial Hermann Wound Care – Greater Heights is dedicated to optimizing outcomes for patients with non-healing wounds. Our approach to wound care is comprehensive, coordinating traditional and advanced therapies and techniques to reduce healing time and improve healing rates. The team features dedicated affiliated physicians, nurses and technicians with advanced training in wound care and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy.

Scope of Services

Our multidisciplinary care team utilizes best clinical practices, beginning with a thorough patient evaluation to determine wound etiology and identify conditions (such as diabetes) that could interfere with healing. Diagnostic tests are ordered if needed, and then individualized treatment plans are developed using the most effective technologies to provide maximum healing and relief for patients.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

We offer HBO therapy, a treatment that is administered in a hyperbaric chamber that delivers 100% oxygen with increase atmospheric pressure. The air pressure inside an HBO chamber is about two and a half times greater than the normal pressure in the atmosphere. This “hyperbaric” (or high pressure) dose of oxygen helps your blood carry more oxygen to your organs and tissues to promote wound healing. It also activates the white blood cells to fight infection.

Amputation Prevention

Our center is dedicated to preventing lower limb loss in patients with chronic, non-healing wounds. The center is staffed with the clinical specialists needed to treat medically complex patients who present with limb-threatening conditions such as diabetic foot ulcers/infections, as well as peripheral arterial disease patients who are in need of medical attention or require immediate surgical intervention. A majority of lower limb amputations are due to foot ulcers that are a result of complications from diabetes, including:

• Neuropathy – loss of feeling in your feet
• Poor circulation
• Charcot foot – a deformity that forms in some patients with diabetes
• Gangrene
• Infections
• Repetitive trauma – from ill-fitting shoes that cause redness, blisters and eventually sores
