Palur V. Balakrishnan, MD, earned his medical degree from Madras Medical College in Chennai, a city in India formerly known as Madras, where he then completed an internship at Government Kilpauk Medical College. After moving to the United States, Dr. Balakrishnan completed an internal medicine residency at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in New York, New York. He completed further training through fellowship programs at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center (SEMC) in Boston, and with Baylor College of Medicine at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, formerly St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, in Houston.
Triple board certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), Dr. Balakrishnan specializes in electrocardiography, electrocardiogram, EKG, ECG, 24-Hour Holter monitor, cardiac stress test, exercise stress test, stress echocardiography test, stress echo, 2D/M Mode Echocardiogram, Doppler Echocardiogram, EchoDoppler, 2D Doppler Echocardiogram with Color Flow, cardiac event recorder, contrast echocardiography testing and interpretation, ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI, ankle-brachial index, ABI), carotid doppler imaging (carotid doppler ultrasound, carotid ultrasound, carotid imaging), venous Doppler ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound and renal ultrasound.
Dr. Balakrishnan cares for patients ages six and older suffering from cardiovascular disease (heart disease), coronary artery disease (CAD, atherosclerotic heart disease), diabetes (diabetes mellitus), hypertension (high blood pressure, HBP) or vascular disease, as well as those requiring angioplasty (balloon angioplasty or percutaneous transluminal angioplasty), interventional cardiology or nuclear cardiology.

When Dr. Balakrishnan is away from his patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children at their West University home.
