April 03, 2025

Boston Marathon bombing survivor, author, and inspirational speaker Rebekah Gregory delivered the keynote address at the 2025 Memorial Hermann Red Duke Trauma Symposium, hosted by Memorial Hermann.

Gregory, who was gravely injured in the April 15, 2013 bombing, shared her journey of survival, resilience, and advocacy for trauma survivors. Her return to Houston and Memorial Hermann is especially meaningful, as Memorial Hermann played a critical role in her medical journey—from her hospitalization to her amputation and later the birth of her daughter in the Memorial Hermann NICU. Several of her caregivers were in the audience. Gregory credits them for the support they offered emotionally as much as the physical care she received from Memorial Hermann. Gregory has endured 76 surgeries since the bombing. She spoke of how the attack and her recovery changed her perspective on life and its challenges. “My life is so full of miracles. Every time I choose to see the beauty and blessings in it,” she said. She calls herself a survivor and discussed how she chooses to live every day with intention, joy and respect for those who helped her regain her life.
