Memorial Hermann provides leading-edge screening, diagnosis and interventional treatment for prostate cancer. DynaTRIM (Trans Rectal Interventional MRI), combined with DynaCAD for prostate planning software, is a newly developed technique using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detecting prostate cancer, allowing fast, simple and reproducible targeting of the prostate gland. Magnetic resonance images of the prostate can more accurately identify suspicious areas that may require further evaluation
DynaTRIM, combined with DynaCAD for prostate planning software, is not dependent on fusing MRI images to ultrasound images to locate suspicious areas at the biopsy after MRI. Instead, DynaTRIM, combined with DynaCAD, provides radiologists with a direct approach where the suspicious area is seen directly on MRI images, and biopsy is done by directly targeting the suspicious area on MRI while the patient is in the MRI scanner. This means there is no dependence on fusing two different modalities done at two different time points and also minimizes the risk of negative biopsies of suspicious areas secondary to errors from poor registration of fusion.
This personalized direct approach (see it on MRI, biopsy it on MRI) can help distinguish tumors from healthy tissue while also pinpointing the larger or more aggressive tumors – resulting in improved diagnoses and therefore appropriate treatment selection.
With DynaTRIM, combined with DynaCAD for prostate planning software, physicians get a more detailed view of the prostate and surrounding tissue. By distinguishing and clearly identifying diseased areas from healthy tissue, DynaTRIM can:
DynaTRIM, combined with DynaCAD for prostate planning software, uses a multiparametric imaging MRI (mpMRI) along with 2D and 3D images for a more in-depth view of the prostate and surrounding tissue. This enhanced MR imaging precisely targets any tumors and measures their composition, volume and any other significant information for physicians. Once a suspicious area is identified on MRI, DynaTRIM provides a direct approach to biopsy the target. The suspicious area seen on MRI is locked by using the DynaCAD software, the DynaTRIM needle sleeve coordinates are adjusted, and the needle is positioned directly in the suspicious area while the patient is in MRI scanner Additionally, DynaTRIM automatically confirms the position of the needle guide for the biopsy while specifically targeting the area to sample within the prostate. DynaTRIM’s software will then record or print these predetermined settings for future reference and review by the radiologist, urologist and oncologist.
If the results of your biopsy are inconclusive, your physician might choose watchful waiting over immediate treatment – and recommend an annual biopsy. In addition to more accurately targeting the suspicious area, DynaTRIM’s software saves the images taken, to guide your physician back to the same place with 3D certainty for future biopsies.
DynaTRIM is recommended for:
Accurate biopsies help improve the prostate cancer cure rate. The DynaTRIM technology helps to reduce the rate of false negatives (as high as 20%*) typically seen with the traditional TRUS-guided biopsy.
Finding cancer early means treatment begins early. Contact your physician to schedule your annual prostate examination.
